Robert Juliat Arthur LT followspot upgrade on Budapest’s Margaret Island
Two Robert Juliat Arthur LT 800W LED long throw followspots have recently been installed in Budapest’s iconic Margitsziget Theatre by Robert Juliat’s exclusive distributor for Hungary, Lysis-Project.
Margitsziget Theatre, Hungary’s most prestigious open-air summer theatre, is located in a unique position in the heart of Budapest, surrounded by the Danube on the beautiful Margaret Island.
Built in 1938, and standing beneath the historic Water Tower within the theatre’s grounds, Margitsziget Theatre is one of Hungary’s most prominent summer cultural venues, offering a rich programme of cultural events and attracting visitors from both Hungary and abroad. Its near 3,000-seat main stage hosts Budapest’s largest multidisciplinary arts festival during the summer months.
Twenty-five years ago, the theatre purchased two Robert Juliat Aramis 2500W HMI followspots, which have been in use ever since and have served the theatre extremely well. Thanks to a successful funding application, however, this spring the theatre had the opportunity to replace these well-proven fixtures with worthy successors. Two state-of-the-art Robert Juliat Arthur LT followspots, featuring a modern LED light source, were commissioned in time for this year’s summer season and have already proven their capabilities in productions including Carmina Burana, Cavalleria Rusticana, Anna Karenina, Il trovatore, Wonderland and Nabucco.
Both István Sárosi, Technical Director, who managed the procurement, and Ákos Bodor, lighting designer for most of the productions concerned, are extremely satisfied with the performance and ease of use displayed by their new Arthur LT followspots.
“I was particularly surprised by the high output of the fixtures’ 800W LED module,” states Bodor. “They are also considerably quieter than the traditional discharge lamp followspots and therefore considerably less distracting for the performers on stage and the audience who are in close proximity to the followspots in the open-air auditorium. There is also the added bonus that many of the features and ergonomics of the new Arthur LTs are familiar to the followspot operators due to Robert Juliat’s well thought out design that carries through - with a number of advancements - to the newer products.”
The Arthur LT LED followspots were supplied to the theatre by RJ’s exclusive distributor for Hungary, Lysis-Project. “Although I am new at the Margitsziget Theatre, I knew I could turn to Lysis-Project Kft. with confidence. I was not disappointed,” states István Sárosi. “The tender required quick action, and I received all the necessary information immediately. There were no issues with meeting the delivery deadline either.”
